1848 BBQ BLOG
Since founding this website as a hobby in 2010, 1848 BBQ blog has gone on to help millions of barbecue and grilling enthusiasts around the world.
At 1848BBQ.com you’ll find a variety of tips, tricks, reviews & resources for learning how to smoke and grill meat in your own backyard.
We’re sharing everything along the way on our journey from amateur to pitmaster.
The background
Hi, my name is Brian Hebert and I’m the founder of 1848 BBQ blog. After experiencing real southern BBQ for the first time I decided I had to learn how to cook like that in my own backyard.
With a trusty Webber Kettle and a bag of charcoals I set out to cook succulent brisket, ribs and pork butts.
After the first mouthful I realized I clearly had no idea what I was doing and set out to learn everything I could about traditional barbecue.
Hundreds of Google searches later I was left scratching my head.
Should I be cooking with lump charcoal or briquette? What makes a great beginner smoker? Why the hell has my brisket temperature not moved in 3 hours and what is the Texas Crutch I keep hearing about?
The more I researched the more confusing, conflicting advice I read. While there are some great resources, forums and books available, putting it all together and knowing what advice to trust and what to ignore was making me loose sleep.
Creating the best resource for BBQ advice
Out of the struggle to find good advice, I decided to create the exact resource I wish I could have found when I was just starting out.
I’ve never won a BBQ competition, so what makes me think I’m qualified to write about BBQ? It’s simple. I”m dedicated to pulling together the best advice, technique and reviews from around the web.
Over the last few years I’ve assembled a small team of like-minded barbecue enthusiasts who share their experiences.
Unlike a lot of other “experts” out there hawking their own brand of BBQ gloves, or cooking courses, we are completely independent and unbiased.
From time to time we may link to products we have researched and recommend, such as the best pellet smoker, best electric smoker, best charcoal grill, best gas/propane grill, or best smoker thermometer… If you agree with our opinion and decide to buy it via the link on our website we may earn a small commission to help us cover our website costs (this stuff ain’t cheap so a big thank you for supporting the website).
We wish you nothing but success and hope your future is full of delicious smoked meat!
